The old story of Stone Soup is about what can happen
when everyone has the opportunity to share whatever
they have to bring to the table.
Stone Soup is about sharing food and creating community, a space where folks who might not otherwise have the opportunity to know each other can meet, share a meal, share their stories and connect with each other. In the process, people are fed physically and conversations often happen that feed the spirit.
After getting a start in January of 2017, volunteers have been gathering every Saturday (rain or shine) in the Fond du Lac Public Library parking lot on 32 Sheboygan St from 12 pm – 2 pm. People bring food to share, we set up tables and popup tents. Often we have items to share from local and regional food pantries, as well as food items that others bring to share throughout the afternoon.
We stress that if done right, the event feels more like a tailgate or block party than a typical soup kitchen.
The lines between guest and server are often blurred – as we each share what we have, and walk away blessed.
If you would like to participate, either by helping prepare food
or set up, we’d love to have you be part of the gathering.
