Ryan Baumgart is a high school educator in Japan at Okinawa Christian School International, teaching courses in Old Testament, New Testament, and biblical applications. With a passion for sharing his faith in any situation, whether in or out of the classroom, he believes that the cultures, values, ideas, and personalities of each student have value, and his goal is to help his students refine these with an understanding of biblical truth.
He experiences many pleasant moments in which the embrace of the Lord surpasses all understanding, even in a gentle prod to say, “This is why you are here.”
Often, he feels that prod during a moment with a student when the work of the Lord in their lives becomes apparent. This is especially true with the class for which he is an advisor. Each day, in spite of all the cultural influences that bombard them, the students sit in class, ready to engage in a deep discussion about God and Scripture. They are seeking.
In moments like these, Ryan is reminded of Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 3:6-9: “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labor of each. For we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building.”
Please pray for Ryan; his prayer requests include:
- That students will come to know Jesus and grow in steadfastness of faith and perseverance
- That staff at OCSI will be passionate about sharing the gospel
- For the Lord’s strength, integrity, perseverance, and direction in the continued pursuit of his Master’s Degree in International Legal Studies
